What kind of boost gauges does everyone have?

yea i read something about removing that hose the other day, can\'t remember where it was, probably here.

is that nipple in the top or bottom pic?

Could you possibly point which one you\'d put it on as there\'s quite a few lines on that pic. Looking around on the net it seems quite common to have it on the line where it currently is.

On any other car I would agree with you - just with that vacuum hose going back to the intake it\'s (to me at least) a real obvious reason for what you\'re describing.

Maybe just block off that offending vacuum hose - it\'d shut me up if I\'m wrong at least

Another problem you have there is the boost gauge hose - if its one of those silicone clear hoses - then that is a problem - these hoses when hot get too soft and tend to some times melt - replace it with proper rubber vac hose and see what this does too

I\'ll give changing the hose and relocating it a go for now and hopfully that will show an improvement. Would one of the two lines just above the red electrical protector in the top pic i added be the best spot to move it to?

Yep that\'d be fine - the one on the left goes to the purge solenoid (thingy which vents the fuel tank vapour through the charcoal canister) so fine to use for a gauge. I actually found on mine that the nozzle of the solenoid itself (it\'s tucked just under that plastic cover) had actually snapped off - got so brittle with age & heat I guess, so was a vacuum leak in itself I wouldn\'t have found otherwise.

Yes don\'t use the line running to the BOV as it reads low. Mine was plumbed into it when I bought the car showed around -11 vacuum, changed it to one of the other lines... hey presto -20 vac.

Just did the switchover tonight, chucked it on line 11 with a straight joiner where it originally was. will still need to get proper vac hose to the gauge as the hose i bought was a size too big.

now reading 22psi vac when idle

about 10psi at around 3.2k and drops down to 5-6psi in the VOD

and about 16psi at 6k

so all is well for now...
