How to bleed power steering properly?

Recommended Posts

I found something in a service manual that says not to run the engine until the system is bled.. Not sure how to bleed it in this case?

Have fitted a new steering rack and lines. No fluid in the system anywhere until now...

Anyone know the 'proper' method?

Fill resivoir, and vac bleed system if you have vac bleeder

Other wise - fill resivoir, let stand for 10min, undo pressure outlet port fitting until fluid flows out and retighten

start engine and IDLE

Top up resivoir again (pump will prob be very noisey but this is OK

After 10 min turn from lock to lock and top up fluid if req'd

Turn engine off and wait 30min (this will release air held in the fluid)

Then finally recheck fluid

Job done

Thanks, I think that is pretty much what I did, but the pump is still making a racket and the steering jerky

Is it possible to blow the pump if you mess up the procedure? Or is it more likely to be a stubborn air bubble in the system somewhere?

I'll have another go at it

It's a b4 remote reservoir pump and spec c rack...

B4 remote res can be a Pri-k

I have found raising the res above the pump a good way to help get air out

also check the hose clamps on that supply hose to the pump, not uncommon for a hose not to be leaking fluid but sucking air in

The pump will settle ( unless you have done big rpm on it with air in the system or big rpm on held on full lock )

Good luck :)

what a c0ck. ended up changing to the old gc8 pump and it's fine now...

the old pump wasnt sucking fluid up the hose, tried lifting it up but when revert to the same issue when lowered again. must be stuffed...

Did you check those hose clamp fittings? on the feed pipe

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
