1997 Forester ST/B losing power through rev range

So i got for very very cheap off a mate a 1997 forester st/b, very very high kms (close to 300) but had legitimate elderly rural owners, so lots of open road kms, tidy as inside and out so id really like to keep it. driveline and suspension feel great.

recently had clutch, cambelt done.

problem i am having is throughout the rev range, it has a few dead spots where it loses a lot of power, like its cutting out of gas and gives a good jolt. Last owner told me this happened once when he put 91 in, but i have only used 98 in it.

anything that commonly goes wrong with these I can look for?

friend said AFM maybe..

a full service wont hurt either, will do once i have this problem sorted.

i\'d be looking at replacing the sparkplugs leads and possibly the coilpack. fuelpump may also be on the fritz, so another thing on the list of things to change. it may also be picking up sludge from in the fuel tank.

has the o2 sensor been replaced? if not, i\'d be getting it done.

yep, that\'s a damn good upgrade for the earlier forries. have a look around the for sale section on this site, some offers pop up from time to time. (there are a set of yellows f/s in palmerston north atm, and if you buy them before this weekend i could probably pick them up for you)

strong for subaru, in onehunga, are THE BEST people to deal with. good prices for clubsub members, have nearly everything in stock, they are just awesome.

plugs are a bit of a pain to do, i\'ve done the ones in my foz, about to do the ones in my impreza, fun fun. involves removal of air box, battery, washer bottle... small hands are good.

i\'d recommend getting the cambelt, oil pump, water pump etc etc replaced, it\'s done a lot of kms so is probably a bit tired, if you tinker too much it may just give up the ghost.

come along to a clubsub meet, up in auckland we have them once a month, the next one is south ways, good to put faces to names :)

oh, congrats on your purchase too, always fun to get new toys hahahaha

*edit* i see cambelt already done. bonus

cool il have a look, busy sorting out a few things for wof this week so may have to pass on those, thanks though.

amazing how much of a car they are for the relatively cheap price they\'re going for on trademe, nicer to drive than things iv spent a lot more money on, and heaps more power.

cool will check out strong for subaru and get a quote for the parts im after.

cheers~!

mechanic was going a few things for wof next tues so also added plugs and leads to the list while hes at it.

getting quotes from a couple places for the parts for that upgrade, been asked what numbers are on the ecu im after ie the v3/v4 sti 3 plug ecu, anyone know?

so i removed the intake silencer, easy was with my next to no mechanic experience which is good.

sounds cool, factory bov is a lot louder and can hear turbo spooling.

funny thing is, maybe my imagination but i dont think so, the spluttering throughout the rev range is worse now, and seems to be starting around when i hit boost, if it is happening more now that tells me its a fuel issue as its now getting more air making the difference bigger?

have booked to go spark plugs and leads on tuesday with other stuff being done for wof.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
