early rs legacy spark plug gap?

I\'ve got a 1990 RS turbo legacy with fairly new ngk iridium plugs but recently it started using loads of fuel. I was told that because of that, being hard to start and intermittent missfires it would be from spark plug gap being too big.

I took them all out and they were all about 1.0mm which looked big and I was told to set them at .6mm. I didn\'t have a .6 so I set them at .58 but now its down on power. Possibly the gaps too big? What should the gap be for my application?

Misfire? Check Engine code? Doubt spark gap . But Platinum\'s at 1.0mm correct for std. (98 octane assumed) Iridium\'s? Chuck them out!

Lots of fuel consumed per km? Equals Driving attitude? or a Check engine code? 10 times out of 10.

Yes I always use 95 or higher and I\'ve been driving it like its my mums, keeping off boost when possible. No check engine codes, checked many times. I thought iridiums were good? It was running well then diteriated in fuel consumption but the performance stayed the same it just got hard to start and began randomly misfiring. Now after re gaping it runs smoothly but has less power...
