2.5 Turbo economy

hey guys,

looking at buying a 2008 2.5 Turbo Outback - anyone have experience with these?

What are they like economy wise when driven 'off boost'?

they have SI drive - i have had a 3.0R in the past so wondering if they compare to these in fuel use?

How much do you guys use when driving a similar age 2.0 turbo

is the 2.5 turbo a good reliable unit? any indication of when things are likely to go pop (ie turbo blows at X,000km's)

I have a 06 2.0 GT 116xxxkms

Combined cycle I get roughly 400-450km on a tank.

Recently did a trip down to Raupehu and got 600kms, I drive my car fairly hard including trackdays but maintain it religiously. Seems okay for now but I am sure it will go BOOM one day.

2.5's obviously have the heavily disputed weakish piston rings but shouldn't be an issue if kept stock. They would have a bit more torque downlow compared to the 2.0's but lose the intake and exhaust variable cams (think vtec) and have just one, intake i think. My 2.0 gets closer to 500km these days. Jap imports are never as well looked after so factor that in aswell

Avcs and vtec are as related as national and labour.

True. Never really spent much time looking into the workings of honda's before. So subaru's avls in NA cars is similar to vtec and modern I-vtec is pretty much avls and avcs both used together.
