I have a 1991 ej20 single turbo legacy wagon it doesn't seem right auto.. Thinking about changing to manual with STI box and engine anyone done this? How did it go? cheers.And if I run STI motor should I do STI gearbox to?

Ryan is your man here. No doubt he'll catch a wiff of this in the near future and will give you some tips. His BF is pretty much exactly what you've described what you want to do with yours

Piece of cake. Use any 1994-2003 gearbox and it will all bolt up with no issues. GTB boxes are very strong and are essentially the same as version 3 STI boxes.

I converted my 1989 GT to a manual and LOVED it. Can be done cheaply if you have a good source for parts.

Has been done a billion times also so theres a tonne of info out there in teh intarwebz.

Yeah easy as conversion. Everything just bolts up nicely. Much better to drive too!!

Any turbo gearbox will be fine, doesn't have to be STI.

Complete bolt on proposition.

GTB boxes are exactly the same as an STI.

When I blew 5th in my RS-R in installed a 97 GTB gearbox all I needed was a matching rear diff, as money was an issue I used a GT rear 4.44 diff.

Seeing as though you have an Auto you can use your existing 4.44 diff.

Limiter launches have broken almost everything but my GT gearbox. However, 600km's of open road driving with no oil hurt it.

there is massive debate of the Front mount intercooler vs top mount, basically if you like that wank factor (or have 300kw atw) then go front mont otherwise stay TMIC, please use the search function to find the thread

It's clutch choice and shock loading that kills these gearboxes.

Exactly. Thats why I run a factory STI clutch and don't dump it!!

Update: all going well will have motor and box out tonight. cvs are a little tricky to remove. but apart from that its a breeze. Will be taking pics of the whole build so just ask and ill send you some. cheers guys

CV's hard to remove??

Remove 14mm head bolt from the hub and lever arm down out of the hub.

Punch the roll pin out of the inner CV.

Slide the inner CV off the stub axle and swing the hub out away from the car.

CV's and axles are now clear of the gearbox/auto trans.

yea I found the pin its was rusted in there and the cvs are shot so I just gas axed them off.
