2.5 outback to buy?

Just in case my car is a write off I have been looking at out backs.  Have found a couple I like the look of.

In my opinion the 2007 is much nicer . the 2005 is an eye sore ! needs new wheels and deal with the wacky fender flap things. Plus the 07 is manual with low high

Yeah the idea of manual high low option appeals to me too. Will take them for a test drive this weekend. Have a few to look at. Unfortunately budget is a bit limited as just brought a house.

Definitely recommend the face lift over the pre facelift. Plus manual & high/low

What about buying from a dealer in another city? Not sure I want to but there maybe an option depending on what I will have to spend.

Is yours the 2.5? if so what do you think of the engine? I had a 2.5 in the last car and I found it a good engine (it was a98 model though)

I would say go 3.0 but there are bugger all manual optioned outbacks out there

Yeah, 2.5l sohc 5 speed, identical to the link you posted above.

 

I stepped up from 2.0 N/A Legacy so the extra half a litre makes a huge difference in my opinion.  Seems like a strong motor, has plenty of torques at the low end (not as much as Andrews beast but you get the idea).

 

Prior to purchasing mine I spoke with my mechanic who has owned several of this exact model and he said they're a strong reliable motor but to check around the head gaskets for signs of leaking, apparently this is the only moderately common issue that these have.

 

Also, these run a cambelt not a chain so double check on that.

I took the 07 manual out which was quicker than an auto but had a few issues. The rear suspension was rattling, the suspension was soft and floppy and there was a whine coming from the diff. I did take a black 05 out , was an auto but was still fast enogh for whatvI need. And I will make sure that the Cambelt is done on any one that I buy.

Ok, so Im getting the insurance payout this week, so by the weekend will be able to buy.

Drove this over the weekend and it drove so nice and smooth. The body and interior are immaculate. Will be getting the cambelt done when I get it, so that won't be a worry.

I think I  will plastidip the rims until I get something better later, But i don't mind them for now.

I'm getting a bit excited to get something new and a bit more modern than the 98 BH leggy.

Also Im assuming that you can run Torque Pro on it. I brought a cable from ebay but it just doesn't read the old car.

If you're going to go auto trans try find a 3.0 - you won't regret it! You should be able to pick one up for similar money

Only problem is there are no 3.0 that are up to my standard. and most are a little more expensive. And most seem to be in beige interior. Can't do beige with kids and dogs

The 3.0 would be nice, but Im still happy with the 2.5. And I need to get something by the end of the week really. So that does limit my options, If I had more time I would keep an eye out for a nice 3.0. Still have this weekend to look as well

I've actually found 3.0R's beige to be more practical than black - you can see less on it (lighter colour dog's hairs, sand etc). I've definitely done less vacuuming than I used to do with black interior of BH.  Not as hot in summer too. LL.Beans have leather/suede seats if I remember correctly, that'd be a bit of a pita to maintain. On a plus side Bean's are usually better spec'd.

So I have finance approved!!!! So looks like I will hopefully have a new car this week. Im pretty sure I'll go for the black 2.5 auto.

But will it fit? Would it be a facelift model, not sure what changes were made, ie Rev A BH bumper is slightly different to Rev D BH bumper an won't fit nicely

It's def off a pre facelift - so will fit the OB your looking at

I would have bought it if I could pick it up!

 

Despite what the seller says, I don't believe this is designed for a 2009 (facelift model), around the base of the headlight there is no up turn which is what I would expect to see.  And for $1.00 I'd say it's worth the risk.  He has had it listed multiple times before so you have a good chance of getting it for a buck!

 

This would definitely set you apart from every other black Outback out there!

Definitely pre-face, facelift will have curvy ends, not straight.
