BG front shocks removal

Trying to get the front shocks out to put some proper, uncut, springs in and I can't get the barstard bottom two bolts undone?? Any tricks??

BIG breaker bar and put some muscle into it.

Thanks guys, snapped a socket adapter lol, and then bent a cross bar using a breaker bar. Got it with a spanner and a 3Lb hammer in the end Now how do I get the top of the shock off? (out of the car now) can't see a big nut?

3 small 12mm bolts. Undo that and it should drop out. Then go down to super cheap auto and buy some spring compressors

if the spring is lose due to being cut you wont need compressors to get the top hat off...

Sorry I should've been clearer. Have the thing out of the car now, never mind the spring compressors, I've got a tower stand just can't seem to get to the big nut that's gonna let me get the spring out of the tower...theres a big rubber cap that seems to be part of the top plate?

Youd still need one to get the new ones in.

That rubber cap just pops off. Then youll need a 17 or 19mm socket i think or a ring spanner and a grunty hex key to stop the shaft turning

17mm and ring spanner doesnt work has to be a socket and have to some how grip the shock

I did mine using an old socket i didnt like. I filed 2 flat bits on it and used a vice grips to turn it. Then a big hex key can be inserted through the square hole in the socket into the strut to hold it still.

Harder to describe than it is to do.

Used an 18" f-tool on the shaft(don't worry I did it where the bump stops cover) with tthe nut in my ground down socket sitting in the vice...sounds painful I know...

Did the trick. Second shock took 20mins total from out to back in.
