Not sure my problem might be gearbox I NEED HELP!

i have a v7 2002 sti 6speed and my problem is when im boosting to about 6500 + now and again its takes about a split second longer to get into 3 and 4 is there a problem there? when i drive normally it changes gear fine! ???

same problem in a 5 spd, (well similar to your desc.) mostly only happens when spirited driving. USed to return to normal after a bit. Getting my gb split in half to be checked soon for diagnosis. Now its at the stage where i get graunchy shifts into 4th every so often.

Am told its a rare problem by mechanic. Not sure if the problem will translate from a 5 spd to 6 but you never know. Pm Ichi Ban perhaps as hes the one with my g/b

yeah i sort get that in 4th i was not sure if it was the clutch starting a wear a little and when im changing gear very fast at 7000 it just takes that little bit longer then normal

does it feel like the gear stick just doesnt "throw" right into 4th, feel like it doesnt go far enough . thats the other symptom i have. It throws it back out of gear and graunches (now). I have a brand new clutch though.

Double clutching solves my problems when spirited driving.

well it has never gone out of gear but when i change gear from 3 -4 just as its going in 4th the gear stick sorta well grind is not the word cos u cant here grinding it just feels like the gear stick and nothing else it sorta meets a little resistance but only for a split second lol its hard to describe. but with with 2-3 it feels fine but again it just takes a split second longer to get in and its fine. ive never herd any grinding noise and its never gone out of gear. sorry if my description is **** lol

i suppose i its just a slight resistance and there not throwing straight in at over 6500

Have you changed your gearbox fluid lately?

My gearbox was quite notchy between the gates when I first got it, I replaced mine with Redline Lightweight Shock Proof gear oil and it sorted it out.

Its good for hiding the problem but not fixing it if you dont have a cash to get your box checked out properly

thank you man i think i will get my mechanic to have a look and at the same time change the fluid. i told him about it and he said with what i described that it might be the synchros but not to worry to much cos he said it dont seem that bad and he has worked on alot of subaru's
