v8 sti vs v7 sti

ok so i just want to confirm - the 2003 v8 sti is the same (engine/ecu setup wise) as a 2002 v7 sti (apart from the twin scroll difference)??

in saying that - a v8sti will run with a v7 sti ecu?

i know both have AVCS but not sure on the tumbler valves thing on the v7 sti and v8 sti??

Hi Pappu, there is no tumbler valves for V7 sti.

hmmm thats strange.. im sure i saw the tumblers in a 2002 sti

the V7 STI has tumbler blocks after the manifold but there is no valves in it. The V8 I think the blocks is replaced by elongating the manifold.

Sure V7 STI doesn't. Heard somewhere the WRX has though

Pretty sure Version 8 pistons are Hypereutectic - cast, while version 7 are forged? Notihng do do with ecu though - I would say it would run it, as the base tune on a link runs both?

between the manifold and the head it is a block like this. with no butterfly valve.

Hey man, ive got a V8 sti which ive been retuning with opensource software, and bought a V7 ECU as a backup incase of failed flash, etc. The V7 has a different maps to the V8 and also V8 ecu has some extra maps. In saying that I have plugged the V7 ecu in and it runs the car fine, just felt a bit flat in performance.

I would expect the mapping is different as they runs in different turbos.

yea the mapping would be different based on the twin scroll and single scroll turbos..

so i guess the conclusion is that the v7 and v8 sti can run withe the same ECU from either model..

how well does it run??

ok does anyone know why the aussie deliverd sti for 2003 was a v7 bug eye and not the normal v8 one?

Its not surprising, old stock just gets sold the next year. Ive seen a 1994 BC5 and the BG shape shouldve ended in 1997 but Reubens is a 98

I have both of them infact... A 94 BC5 and a 98 BG5. Just made in the year before and sold/registered late.
