B4 TT oil

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is my first post so bare with me if this subject has been discussed many times before! I have a blitzen and looking to change the oil tonight. Some guy at repco recommended Catrol Edge 10w-60. After jumping on wiki to truly understand what these numbers mean, I've discovered the '60' part means this oil is rather thick. My car has done 130,000 and I dont know the history of previous oils used. I'm sure this oil couldn't do any harm to the engine but I'm stuck on what grade of oil would be best. I don't plan on driving my car hard but I want nothing but the best in terms of oil.

Thanks for your comments!

Congrats on your first post!

Have a quick read here:

From what I can tell, there are three schools of thought:

- Castrol Magnatec 10w40 is the easiest to get, is cost effective and is a pretty safe bet.

- Castrol Magnatec 5w30 is what the Winger Sublab use but you can't buy it off the shelf

- Castrol Edge 5w30 is what Winger Sublab recommended I use for my own oil changes.

I've had a couple of changes with the 5w30 Magnatec and one with the Castrol Edge 5w30. It didn't seem to use any of either, they both looked a little dirty at the end of 5000km (the oil looked new for the first 3000 or so).

Edge is much more expensive then the Magnatec 10w40 but if you're not worried about that, I'd stick Edge in it for this first oil change and see how it goes. If it seems excessively noisey or it eats through it then consider a slightly thicker oil for the next change.

I highly recommend changing the oil every 5000km btw.

Castrol Edge 5w-30 is great stuff. Used in both my subaru's and didnt burn through it or anything. A little pricey but i tend to wait for it to come on special and stock up - Supercheap not long ago had it for $45.00 which is quite good considering cost price is $40ish.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
