Seat removal?

Just a quick simple question

Are you allowed to take seats out of your car and still be at a warantable standard?

And also is there a certain length your allowed to go to, e.g. back only, or can you take back and passenger out?

I am pretty sure I have seen a lot of guys do this but I want to be sure you dont have to be caged or anything silly like that to legally take the seats out.

it would have to be certified for it and to do it thay make you weld seatbelt and seat mount bolt holes up ??? dont know what the logic behind it is.

i had a quick look at the ltsa site for wof's, all it says is you need a drivers seat?!?

but i have heard you need to be certed to remove seats, tacking a bolt into the seatbelt hole is adaquite AFAIK

I asked the LTNZ about this a while ago - according to their technical department you just need to get the car noted as a 2 seater when you go for your next WOF. The LTNZ apparently cant do it over the phone for you or at the Post Office, has to be done by the WOF guy - presumably so he can make sure what you have done is safe - ie you havent taken front door cards off.

However I have owned 3 cars now with stripped interiors and been stopped by cops before and they have never complained about it. The proper solution of course is to put a cage in there - you know you want to

Just wanted to clarify where I stood at this point. I guess the weight savings arent huge for taking seats out anyway. They can stay for now.

rear seats + rear floor of the wagon part + rear door cards + spare wheel (spacey) = 30+kg in a forester.....

my rear seat alone in my gf8 impreza is exactly 20kg but i think yours is a sedan which dont weigh fark all so yeah prob not worth it

Dont forget the fat ass driver in my case Didnt realise it was so much weight though in the back!

Yeah mines a sedan.

I had the seat out for sub instill once before, I would guesstimate top and bottom together weigh 20 odd KGs.

But is was a while ago and thats a very rough guess.

All good anyway, get through the couple of things Ih ave planned and then start looking at a cage
