Coilovers & Certification: "if it passes warrent, who cares!"

Hi I am looking at putting in coilovers. Car is currently fully legal and fully covered by insurance wih current mods and want to keep it that way.

I know you 'need' to get coilovers certed to pass warrent... however some members on the site are making comments like "if it passes warrent, who cares!"

So my question is.. if I do not get certification, but still pass warrent, and my insurance policy has coilovers listed as a modification for my vehicle, is there ANY reason at all to get the cert?? (eg. tough policeman, or I write someone's car off via crash, etc, etc).. Will I be legal driving around and covered by insurance?

Hoping for a clear answer (if thats possible).

Thanks.

just because an item passes a warrant it does not make it legal, it just means the warrant inspector could be fined or penalised in some way for doing such a poor job. you can pass you warrent, then have a headlight bulb blow as you drive out, even though you have a warrent, you still driving an unsafe car. if you get the jist of it lol

Even if you "pass" a warrant with them in (it can always be claimed that they weren't in the car at the time) but for insurance to actually pay out, your car needs to be at a proper warrant of fitness standard i.e. if they find coilovers in your car and you've just pitched it off a cliff (or into a BMW like the ad), yet there is also no cert for the suspension, then you're screwed ;D

So yeah, not really legal either.

Thank a lot everyone. This is what I was half dreading/half expecting you all to say.

Thats made it much clearer for me, fully understand now.

Will have to just wait a little longer to save the cash for coilovers & alignment + cert now. Not a cheap mod is it... oh well will be worth it come my first track day ;)

Thanks again for quick and clear replys.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
