Power Aerial Problems

Firenza

Recommended Posts

I did a search, and couldnt find anything on the 3 pages I got given, so Im gonna ask.

right, the power aerial on my Impreza has never worked, which is a problem, as I listen to the radio a fair bit.

I took the radio out, and the HU has been fitted with a compatible harness, which appears to coincide with the wiring diagrams I have seen.

So, unless anyone knows why Sony Xplod headunits dont like making Impreza aerials work, then it must be the aerial itself.

Is there anyway i can test it, to make sure the motor works? and anyway I can manually raise it so that I can atleast hear more then static? As that would at least help me in the short term.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Pete

Pull the trim out of the boot and see if you have power and earth down there.

Normally the aerial is just linked to the switched power (red) wire. Some head units have a separate power aerial wire, like my Panasonic. It drops the aerial when I flick to CD or AUX.

Yeah, find the wire that controls the aerial (my car was yellow/black although I think sometimes its blue), probably be one that is not connected to anything at the moment. Or find a wiring diagram for your car that shows the colour of the aerial power wire.

Most of the newer headunits don't have a separate aerial output, so usually you just connect the 'remote' line (the one that controls an amp) to the aerial. However this will make the aerial rise every time the car is on.

So what I did was buy a switch from jaycar and just put the switch between 'remote' and the aerial wire. All the aerial power wire needs is a constant positive voltage to be in the up position. Then I just push the switch that has replaced one of my coin holders when I want to listen to the radio.

I have checked the wiring diagrams, on my sony HU a blue wire is the "ANT REM" which controls the aerial motor. This is connected via a wiring harness to pin 14 on the Subaru connector, which according to scematics, should be the aerial one.

I HATE wiring, I havent a clue about ohms or volts or anything like that, but checking diagrams I can do myself! What I am looking for is some way of testing the aerial to make sure that part works, as the connecton on the HU seems correct.

Is there something else wired up that I could temporarily connect to the aerial motor wire to make it go up, Im thinking maybe the Cigarette lighter? But i dont know if that would be acceptable, and dont really want to blow something attaching random wires.

If you connect the aerial switch feed to the ciggy lighter, it will go up whenever the car is on ACC or ON... *BUT* you want to put in say, a 2.5A fuse in the mix to make sure you don't burn anything out.

Guest lan_killa

did you say that you can pull up the aerial by hand??? if so the aerial unit is probably poached. Give me a PM if you want me to take a gander at it at some stage

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
