Help - Lower suspension arm bushing - Today post only

My car is in bits!

I have bought the GC8 lower suspension arms (including one arm with a good bush) for my BG5A in an effort to make good of a knock back on the LH bush in a WOF. I mean, why pass up a chance to have a cheap upgrade if ya under there anyway? ;D

Turns out, I didn't read binny's doc explicitly enough to realise I needed the Rex sway bar link as well, which needless to say I don't have right now. But that's not the real problem. In an effort to just get legal for the time being and complete the upgrade next weekend, I thought I would just change the bush over from the replacement arm and get a WOF.

Well. Using binnys 'how to' found here - http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index.php?showtopic=109631 -

I went ahead and removed my LH arm. I have gone to remove the bush from the arm but OMG it's like it's pressed in there (just don't wanna break out the hammer just yet in case that's a bad thing).

Please don't tell me the bush is inclusive of the ally part, because I only have a good RH one of those. The LH ally part/bush (the one I need) on the replacement arm is bent and squished from the rite off rex I got it from.

1. Can you remove the bush from the ally retainer that bolts to the underside of the chassis and how?

2. Anyone local got any ideas and able to come to the rescue (i'm in CHCH)?

I am willing to help you consume the payment whilst talking smack and pretending we know what we're doing ;D

Any quick responses appreciated!

So the actual grease filled bush it's self slides right out of the ally bracket? Not to forget I haven't got those fancy gold ones, just the standard BG ones. Oh and if they do, not tapered is it... ie. Only slides out one way. Cause i'm about to take to the old one with a hammer :)

You have missed my whole point really.

That did slide off no prob. Now I am trying to remove the bush from within. Hence my "is this one piece" comment. Problem is these are left and right. My LH replacement arms bush has a bent bit (gold piece if you will) and i'm trying to remove the middle of it to replace the bush in to my existing one.

I am only now just realising that this is all one piece, or a least press fit to which I don't have the tooling to do. At least this is what I am trying to confirm. When you buy a new bush, does it come with the "gold bit"?

Cars ::)

So to confirm... As it is Sunday, go to Ripco, they will have this bush which is encased by a ally bracket to bolt to the car? Sheesh, what a way to turn 30mins in to an afternoon :)

Just got back from Ripco. Didn't have them, so ended up getting Nolathane kit for both sides (also not cheap). Now I have to somehow cut the middle out of the originals to replace them ???

Here goes nothing.

Well I have finally done it... A bit of hack saw work later, but all good in the end.

The following steps are for Neanderthals and desperate people ONLY!

This is not recommended and should never be done this way. But if you're in a jam... :P

1. Remove hacksaw blade from handle.

2. "Thread" hacksaw blade through centre of bush and reassemble hacksaw.

3. Place bush in vice with protection from vice marring.

4. Cut toward the outer edge and be VERY careful not to score the piece your keeping (aluminium brackety part).

5. Repeat 180 degrees around. ie. cut opposite the cut you just made

--- You now have a bush within the bracket cut in two ---

--- Also being very careful not to damage what you still need, do the following ---

6. Swear, bash cut squeeze, wrench, push (cold chisel worked well for me too), until the sucker comes out.

I had success but with a reasonable blade mark on the inside surface of my bracket. I just took out the sharp edges/burs with a very light filing and steel wool for finishing. I know I am gonna get sooo much sh** over this, but at the end of the day it worked for me when I was stuck.

I DO NOT ENDORSE THIS WAY OF DOING THINGS... DO IT THIS WAY IF YOU ARE DESPERATE ONLY.

Thanks for hanging by for a while drunkenmonkey. I know we had a lil miscommunication there for a bit, but believe it or not you helped me passively. I prob would have thrown my tools at the car if I didn't have someone to type to :)

Prettymuch the same way, if not better, that I did it, havent had any creaking problems really, but will be changing to alloy arms soon enough with their own bushes.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
