Knocking at the left hand rear tyre area??

Hey guys i have a V7 sti wagon and ive had new tyres and everything done to it alignment etc etc. now when i take off or come to a stop there seems to be this knocking coming from the left hand rear of the vehicle and its getting quite noticable.

Just wondering if you would have any ideas as to what it may be?? would it be serious?

Loose hub nut. Well not loose but not tight enough.

Very common on GD/GG Imprezas.

could also be the shock..

easy test:

lift the car on jacks and let the wheel have full free travel.

leave for a while

then lower and drive

if the noise goes away for a while then its the shock

if noise stays reguardless then its not

Left rear is weirdly susceptible to knocking in BG5's

If it's a red shock, it'll be the shock.

Guessin it's done around the 50-80,000km's mark? This is where the seals usually fail.

Can't rebuild either, no matter what people tell you to the contrary.

New from subaru: approx 6-700 EACH!

Time for coilovers, unless your lucky to find some cheap second hand ones (make sure they done below 20,000kms or they'll just go tits up again real soon).

ok so shocks seems to be the popular choice. i went and pushed on the back of my car and it made the knocking sound as i was pushing down so yeh i think you guys may be right

That'd be it.

For a cheap fix, you could buy a full set of the std impreza shocks (same as in the wrx).

They will bolt in fine, but are a lot softer than the STI ones.

That's if you cant afford a good set of coilovers. I put a new pair in the back of the Spec c and was ok, just a wee bit softer, until i got the coilovers.

no harm in trying the re grease thing, it may be a blown shock, or if you lucky the grease lol

i just drove back from nelson very cautiosly aswell because it seems as if it is getting alot worse. almost creaking as i reverse out of my driveway. hopefully the shock shop or something ios open before new years so i can get it checked out!

what would be a good set of coilovers that i should be looking at?? just so i can go away and do some research. i have a mechanical warranty on my car so the shocks would be covered anyway but i was always going to put some coilovers in eventually.

If you have a mechanical waranty, then go make a claim now!

Get them to fit a pair of brand new sti rear shocks from subaru.

That way, when you find a set of coilovers new for around 1500-2500 depending on brand, you can sell your nearly new shocks for about a grand to offset the cost...

(Subaru charge around $1400 a pair).

turns out they dont cover shock absorbers. thats a set back. ok well going in to a shop tomorow get them checked out and gloing to have to go from there.

You could point out that this is not natural attrition, it's a fault with the seal...but good luck with that.
