safe mode..

Hey guys, my v2 wrx wagon has been running 7 psi for a while now instead of the usual 10 psi.. i have reset my ecu, and there were no codes. after reset the problem was fixed but only for a very short time. it ran 10psi for a short time before going back to 7. Anyone got any ideas as to why it might be going into safe mode straight away?

Detonation most probably, the knock sensor will be picking up knock and pulling boost and timing.

What fuel are you running in it??

I am running Caltex's "premium", theres no BP in my area to run 98

Get some upper engine cleaner from Subaru. Its probably all carbon'd up. That will increase compression making it more prone to knock, and the carbon heats up and causes det by early ignition of the fuel.

It can't hurt to try it. It does smoke a lot though, so do it on a windy day. And keep the house windows and doors closed.

Mines been doing the same thing. droping back from 15psi down to around 9psi, ECU reset fixed it untill i boosted properly again then back into safe mode.

I thought it was because i was forced to use 95 at one stage, but its been running on 98 for the last 4 tanks and still droping into safe mode...

Youll only get 95 down here Ray.

Could try swapping o2 sensors though, fuel shouldnt affect it.
