1996? WRX Gravel Express

Hi All

I have a 1996 Gravel Express that needs its cam belt done. My mechanic asked me if it is a single or quad cam. How can I tell.

Also it has a miss at low revs / under load. What is likely to cause this?

lift up your bonnet..

on the left side and right side of your engine there will be circles on your cambelt cover where the cams would be

if there is 2 on each side its quad cam

if there is 1 on each side its SOHC

i would suggest being a gravel express it would be quad cam.

Call a Suby dealer and give them your VIN. They will be able to tell you all the specs for your car from that number, and supply you the belt too

I'm pretty certain it's a Quad Cam engine too

A lil bit of research on the site and google can tell you everthing you need to know the nocking may be from inferior fuel what do you run it on 95 ?

on 2nd thought... its a quad cam.. WRX were never sohc in any sort of model ( AFAIK )

if your mechanic needs to ask if its single or quad maybe hes not the one to be doing the cam belt

If the mechanic doesn't know weather a WRX is SOHC or DOHC, he is NOT the mechanic for the job! find someone else.

thanks for all your help. I am in wellington.

The mechanic we use does a good job and is honest which is rare. I asked him for a cost for the cambelt / seals / waterpump and only told him it was an impreza. He asked if it was a quad or single cam. I have been quoted +-$1000. From what I can tell, this sounds about right?

wingers quoted me $2200 to do my full cambelt service.

Although it only cost $378 for all genuine parts then some cash to a mate to fit it.

hence why i asked where you were as he's looking for some more home jobs for cash.
