Haha, trash talking already. Maybe Keltic will come down and put us all to shame =P -
The extra grip you get from larger sway bars (at whichever end) is because they transfer more weight to the outside tyre (unless your roll centre is somehow above your centre of gravity). Tyre grip is a function of weight (vertical loading) and the friction coefficient of the tyre (which is determined by tyre material/ construction/ heat etc). As Qwerty said, you will probably find the car is less progressive or 'forgiving' at the limit because a tyre will respond to more vertical loading only to a point, at which time it will begin to lose its lateral loading capabilities very quickly. Generally speaking you are much better off getting bigger sway bars than increasing your suspension stiffness - the simple reason being that the softer the suspension the better for maintaining grip over uneven surfaces.

Standard STi equipment for the track

That being said, I BEB'ed on road tyres at Manfeild, so it can happen. Then again, anything can happen. Like Q said, go and have some fun. -

How do they compare to Bendix Ultimates? -
Nah, no 2.5 legacies listed in our manual. But yeah, typo on the 2.0i, fixed =P

I figured I would start transcribing specifications out of the manual. I will do them as they are written, without editing. It probably applies to models a year either side (possibly even 2003->2006), and includes all models of wagon and sedan. Please excuse the verbosity and redundancy - the forum doesn't seem to support colspans in its little pseudo html language. I'm pretty sure the manual GT and GTB are identical power/ torque wise - 205/343 from memory. I can check the car manual. It will probably list the values for an auto too, so I'll have a look tonight if I remember. The difference between these two models as far as I can tell are trim (and probably struts) - and imported ones will differ in trim from the NZ new GT/ GTB I suspect.
-
No sir, they did not (drop it that is).
-
Probably most people have seen this already, but every time I watch it I think to myself "best sounding CS car?". If I killed another engine, I would seriously consider going down this route.
-
No Funky, Spec Cs are godlike machines that shrink away from the sheer mention of anything as mundane and wannabe as a WRX or STi.
-
That was RE001s at the road and track series last year. I did the Port Rd street sprint two weeks ago, and drove to work today, all on the same set of tyres =] I would recommend nitrogen fills for competing too - $5 a tyre is cheap and it's good for wear.
-
40 PSI sounds pretty steep. Is that trying to compensate for soggy sidewalls? I think I had around 28 on the left and 29 on the right when my engine went bang at the Manfeild back track.
-
And you reckon they can match a factory colour? I'll try and drop in to see them at lunchtime today or tomorrow.
-
I've got a brand new unpainted set of factory 18" wheels for the GTB (bought them with the car three years ago), and I figured I should get them painted and swapped over seeing as they are taking up room in the house. I would like to get them matched to the factory colour as close as possible, which is why I don't plan on painting them myself. Anyone have any suggestions/ recommendations for folks to do this in Wellington?

Gearbox Oil, K Frame and Uneven Tyre Wear
GC8E2DD replied to caspros's topic in Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Three degrees is quite a lot of camber for a road car, but not too much for a track car. I think GC8s have less than one degree standard on the front and none on the back (someone will correct me no doubt). Do you have a lot of toe as well? What tyes are you running? I bought a set of RE001s last year - they've done about 5000kms and ~8 events (including that fateful Manfeild) and are starting to look pretty worn, but nowhere near the belts! -

BL/ BP Legacy FTW - no conversion required =P

Wait, I just re-read your post. I don't currently have crystal headlights - I have V3/4 frosted ones on my V4. So what you are saying is that I can screw in a set of crystals from a V5/6 as a direct replacement with no other modifications right?
-
I have a few questions about these headlights. I've got a hole in the middle of my left hand headlight and it might not pass the next warrent, so I'm wondering if I should look for two crystals rather than one 'frosted' replacement. *) Are the V5/6 crystal headlights interchangeable with the V3/4 frosted ones? I mean, do you have to change the grill or anything else? *) Are the V5/6 crystal headlights any brighter than the V3/4 frosted ones? *) Are there matching crystal corner lights with the V5/6 or are they the same as the V3/4 ones?
-
That is exactly what Al Maclennan did with mine - biffed it and got a second hand one. And he put in ACLs ... I reckon if you put 5k worth of crank, rods and pistons in and go racing, then you are willing to lose 5k worth of crank, rods and pistons =P

NOLTEC stuff on trademe??? Any good????
GC8E2DD replied to scottiescottiescottie's topic in Brakes, Suspension and Steering
How heavy is twice as heavy? You can gain or lose a couple of kilos a corner just on your wheel selection alone.
