wheel stud replacement

i need to change 1 rear left wheel stuf after i cross threaded it..

anyway, do i need to take the break disc off or will i be able to bang it out without ?

also, how tough is it to bang it out and how much force to use for the new one to be put in?

Yeah but its pretty easy to remove the caliper to get it out of the way and then take the rotor off. Not sure if you've got an ABS ring in the way or not (few allen head bolts to shift that out of the way aswell).

Bash the old stud out of its hole and then to pull the new one into place I usually put it in by hand loosely, put the rotor in place, put a big washer on the bit of the stud thats sticking out, then slowly wind a wheel nut (on backwards i.e. flat face against the rotor not the tapered edge) to pull the stud firmly into place. Use coppercote on the stud to make it easier to wind the nut on (should have coppercote on all the studs anyway )

Then take the nut off, check the stud is firmly seated and put everything back as it should be.

I used a pair of 'traditional' nuts to pull the new stud through when I did mine, was slightly easier than using a wheel nut imo. The hardest part about the whole process is getting the new stud actually into the hole, as it's a bit fiddly. Not 'hard' though.

ya the dam ppl at the workshop did it but then blamed me for alrady having a cross thread.. ah well.. this weekend is when i find out the cut of my jib lol
