BPE Keyless Remote not working, do I have to buy a whole new key?

The remote part of my spare key does not work so I opened it up to find it's one corroded mess and the push buttons inside have fallen appart. Do I need to buy a whole new kwy or can I replace just the electronic remote part?

While on the topic of keys, is the special barrel/key matching in the key shaft? ie; magnetic or something? As the spare key still opens the door manually and can start the car.

If you want the remote to work then yes, you need a whole new key. Remotes aren't available separately.

The immobiliser is separate to the remote locking. It is a magnetic chip down near the blade of the key.

your local lock smith can do the silka ?? ones BUT they wont have the keyless entry function.

I believe you can get them from EBAY for cheaper

Transponder keys are cheap enough, around $15 NZ but there's something else boosting it up to $200?

if they are the factory remote locking then yup that is cheap ( Toyota ones up around $350)

Usually Ebay for the win, currently not much on there in Aus website, but the US version has some.

Some ebay sellers wont ship out of the states, but email them first and enquire and most will then ship if you pay via paypal...

damn! i paid about $300 for my BMW... they had to get it from Germany cause the transponder was stuffed...

$200 was what they told me two years ago.

It's now $249 for the key and another $90 for cutting and programming ex GST

That's some serious inflation

I found a guy who will do me a transponder key (no remote central locking) for $130-$150 so will go with that and override the alarm if I ever need this 2nd key
