BG5 Bilsteins Vs V7 STI suspension

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have searched and found some good topics on this but still have a few questions that I hope you guys can help me with before I commit and buy some V7 sti struts to replace my Bilsteins.

1) Is changing from Bilsteins on my 97 legacy gtb to the red (KYBs i think) struts from a V7 sti considered an upgrade in suspension, or at least equal in ride quality? I would assume yes considering they're from an sti model 4 years later.

2) Would I use the sti springs or would I need to/be able to swap over the springs off my Bilsteins considering they would be going on a wagon?

3) Will the swap alter ride height? I read that it will greatly increase the height in the rear on a GC8 but this wont be a problem on a BG5?

4) Sounds like it should be a straight forward swap except I will need camber bolts in the rear, is there anything else I will need?

Sorry for all the questions but hope some of you can ease my concerns so that I can go ahead find some sti struts and do the swap.

Cheers.

1. Not sure if its an upgrade, both (v7 & bg) are certainly good but the V7 are newer, normally done less kms too.

2.It would be a good idea to use the V7 springs, but i test fitted bd5 lowering springs on v7 shocks and seemed ok?

3. Should be about the same, may be slightly higher if the old ones are saggy

4. Camber should be your only problem, check the brake line clips match tho

Awesome, thanks for your help. I think the main problem with my Bilsteins is they have done 150,000km and probably need a rebuild but with the $'s involved to do that I figure I'll be better off trying some low km V7 sti ones.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
