okay i have just dropped a second hand engine in my legacy, everything is hooked up but just doesnt seem to want to fire, engine was sitting for a little while. any tips or tricks to get it firing???

Has it got fuel, spark?

Are all the sensors plugged in? Fuel lines primed? Alarm de-alarmed?

how do you prime fuel lines?

Turn the key on and off a few times. Think the factory ECU primes for a couple of seconds when you first turn the key on. Better to actually check that the fuel is getting to the injectors though.

ive got fuel at the injectors, all sensors are in. whats the easiest way to check for spark?? its an ej20 by the way

ok, so now we have established that it has coils on plug, so remove coils, fit plug to coil, earth plug out on engine, turn engine over to check spark.

check that the ecu earth is bolted back onto the intake manifold, have seen so many people swap out an engine and just cant get it to run and it turns out they havnt bolted the ecu earth back on (including myself the first time I swapped an engine haha)

what does this earth look like as i couldnt get an old gt to run...

It comes off the loom on the passenger side of the car just before the injector plugs and is usually bolted to the manifold around where either of those two green arrows point

Ive got this same problem except ive also run a second earth strap to the plenium and still have weak as f**k spark...

Gotta love leaving the starter ground off too. Go to crank... nothing... f***, always the f***ing starter ground

The other i've done more than once is getting the fuel lines in and out mixed, that's my fault for not clearly marking the split rail hoses before putting the engine in though, lol.

Also had an auto crank, but not fire. Turned out to be a bung park switch, cycling it through the gears usually got it working.

In other words, there's a million f*ing things that can stop a car from starting. Just dig into it, check everything.

all right, sorted, i dont have anything bolted to thoses holes, but i cant find a wire that will reach thier. can you be spacific about where it comes from?? please

heres a picture on my car I got it a bit wrong when I said it comes off the loom just before the injector plugs, if you look in behind your battery then you will see some big plugs that the engine loom plugs into, follow the main bundle of wires around behind the manifold to just beside your idle control valve and you will see the earth coming off that main big bundle of wires and should be bolted to the manifold where you can see mine is, if its not bolted on there then obviously its in that area somewhere so find it and bolt it on
