Whine?

Hey guys,

Starting to investigate a "Whine" that comes from the front of my car when cornering. It's never there driving straight.

What sort of things should I be checking out, or getting more detail on to diagnose?

In before "Just drive in a straight line all the time problem solved" haha

what type of gearbox as Dccd boxes are known to create noise with wrong type of oil...

maybe oil change altho i suspect its gunna be worse than that

My guess would be a wheel bearing, on the outside that whines the loudest while turning

Or cheap crap directional tyres

Update:

Described my issue to a guy at Driveline Auto's here in Rotovegas today, he immediately said wheel bearings too.

We jumped in the car and went for a drive...

He suspects it's the gearbox because when turning if you pop it in neutral (no noise) then back into gear whine is there again...

He asked me when I last changed the gearbox oil which was about 2000kms ago, and asked if I found lots of metals filings which we did.

So his first guess is bearings going in the gearbox! Great news huh? He didn't speculate anything on a price when I asked he just said could be alot (they were closing in 5 minutes when we got back) so he was in a hurry. He also said my clutch didn't feel grabby enough either and recommended that be looked at too.

He said that syncros seems to be all fine which is some nice news.

So now I'm unsure about taking it to taupo in april, and not knowing how long it will last and how much it's gonna cost is frustrating me!

I'm guessing theres lots of options such as:

Replace bearings only?

Recondition whole box?

New box?

going 6 speed? would love that haha.

Can anyone give me ideas on costs and things to be done?

You could Go 6 speed , But pretty sure the 6 speeds run a different flywheel .. But if you were looking at doing it on the cheap Just get a secondhand g-box with low ks bro.. And new clutch kit

yea replace clutch and get flywheel machined and either rebuild box (pretty sure some people on here can do it for ya) or replace with a knowen good one

Also Im sure some1 would give you a had chucking a new box in Depending on your area, as its pretty easy to do
