Couple of eletrical things

So trying to fix a few problems on a mates car.

1/ The radio wont work, headie is all sweet etc just wasnt getting reception, however when i grab aerial with both hands it gets a bit of reception, take 1 hand off and non...

This pointing that aerial is poked or other idea???

2/ The door open and seatbelt light on dash doesnt work, pulled out and replaced bulbs, still dont work.

The car used to be a wheel chair equipped car but all has since been removed...Im suspecting this will have something to do with the bulbs not working ...Any ideas on what i can look for??

Its in a EK Civic not that that matters lol

1) Aerial or cable to aerial might be stuffed.

Check ground continuity at the co-ax connector.. and at the antenna base.

2) First thing to check would be fuses...

is all teh wiring still intact for the door and seatbelt switch?

it may have been removed/modified for the wheel chair seat thing

Any way to actually test aerial is stuffed???

And how should i find wiring like where is it usually, i suspect it may have been removed hence it not working.

Not to worried about this really.

Main thing is aerial lol..

are you getting reception on any station or non at all?

you could try measure the resistance from tip to end of the wire.

see what that comes up with, give it a wiggle while your doing it, see if it changes as it may have a poor connection at the areal. some, not sure about the civic, have a plug in the base of the arial, maybe pull it open and see what its like in there.

I know this sounds retarded but its almost as if when you grab the aerial you are earthing it and its working.

Is there a wire that supposed to go from the aerial to the chassis or something thats come loose?

you might be right man, its not like working perfect but its picking up a hell of a lot more signal than nothing haha.

Might pull aerial and headie out and trace wires...

the aerial should be earthe thru the body of the vehicle and the body of the aerial
