Removing lowering springs

I have an auction on trademe for GAB shocks and low king springs which failed wof for leaking struts

Had a question from a guy who wants me to remove the springs. Is he right? Don't really want tophats flying round the garage

Nah sorry I don't have spring compressors 5:26 pm, Wed 19 Jan

You don't need spring compressors to take em off only need compressors to put on but seeing there low springs you wouldn't even need compressors to put on anyway. all im asking is can you undo the 17mm nut and remove springs from shocks? hijacka (182 ) 7:08 pm, Wed 19 Jan

it all depends how low they are and how much compression there under really.

and i wonder if thats a member we have on here

From my experience i would say you would need compressors for low springs, but it does really depend on how compressed the spring is as smurff said above

Always use spring compressors to take them off unless they are cut hence not captive

There are have been many times the top hat/spring hits the person in the face

Broken teeth, broken nose, broken jaw ( I saw that one at tech )

Just borrow some off a mate or take them to your local pit stop

if it's not under a huge amount of compression, maybe you could tie something that won't stretch around some of the coils, and when undoing the nut, have the shock braced by something solid, and undo the nut through a towel or something. a bit mickey mouse but i'm sure it can be done safely with some thought

iv heard of it done with a chain around the coils then use a d bolt to hold together, Persoanaly sounds like a pain in the a** to do Why not just get some spring compressors from supercheap/repco there cheap like 40 a pair..

Maybe send them with a clubsub member who is coming up?

I have use a small ratchet strop or an old seat belt, you'd be surprised at how much you can get low springs to compress
