Bedding in new clutch

Recommended Posts

Just got a new HD clutch (factory replacement) in my '99 BH5 wagon.

Wow - compared to the old one (which was slipping), sure bites like nothing on earth. :o

However, she shudders a fair bit when taking off in 1st/reverse. Slightly higher rev's ease the takeoff, but still feel's pretty on/off and tends to bite fairly aggressively. Have been recommended to give a good week to bed in - but just wondering what I can do to ease it in?

Apart from taking off from a standstill, feels pretty mint and responsive.

Just shudders a fair bit when taking off.

Would be interested in anyone comments who's put in/running something similiar.

Any advice for getting things a bit more smoother would be keen to hear. ::)

standard IS a HD Exceedy clutch anyway? aint it?

I just drove mine :P (few years back now)

Yes factory is Exedy - but what is HD? besides heavy duty

9 out of 10 clutch issues I have seen are non O/E

The old factory clutch did shudder a fair bit when cold, but believe this was quite a common occurrence.

Feel of the new clutch is great, just keen to know how I can best bed it in over the next week.

Obviously you want to avoid hard launches (which I don't make a habit of anyway)...but what's the best way to drive it while's she's bedding in?

bedding in = drive it normally and dont be a dorkus :) No launching, flat shifting, etc just normal driving

Preloading the top lateral engine mount helps to some degree

Thanks Ichi Ban, makes good sense.

Normally round town take off smoothly with minimal revs, but doing this with the new clutch shudders quite a bit. Easing out with revs around 1.5-2k feels a bit smoother. OK to keep doing this while bedding in?

(Isn't quite as smooth as before, but seems to avoid shuddering as much).

could make the issue worse in the long run by doing higher rpm take-offs now

se the mechanic who fitted it and ask for it to be fixied

couls be a loose mount, bets get it checked and issue logged with the shop now

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
