Gearboxes for a forester?

Ok question,I have a 98 forester sf5 with a auto trans an would like to convert it to manual BUT!!! I just wanted to know can you fit a wrx or legacy gearbox, drive Shaft etc. without any problems with running gears because I got told a while back from a guy at winger subarus that it wouldn't run rite cause compression ratio's or something like that.

I only ask because there seems to be alot more rex an legacy parts around an I know alot of the parts are compatible just not sure about the gearbox. 8)

Just use a manual forester drive shaft and you'll be fine.

WRX and Forester Gearboxes are the same so long as the ratio's are the same you can use your standard rear diff. When I converted mine I went to Strong For Subaru and asked for the full conversion. Gerald sorted it out and it all bolted straight in.
