Wobbling Crankshaft pulley

Our old runabout seems to now have a wobbling Crankshaft pulley when looking at the front of the engine with it running.

Should I be concerned? ???

pull it off and check the crank / pulley and key

Not uncommon to damage the crank if the crank bolt has been left loose at some stage

Cross ya fingers, as normally it means fubar time

reminds me of when you pulled mine off Rick... keyway was like a wedge shape = fubar'ed

Its a $2000 car I dont want to spend $500+ on it.

Is it many hours work for a mechanic?

to do what? checking it would take 1/2h max if the pulley came off easily enough.

To fix - you mostly likely need a new crank = much more than $500 sorry to say dude.

Else drive it as is till it implodes.

if it just needs a new key etc and hasn't damaged much would it be a cheap fix?

Its only been doing it for a week

with a bit of luck it has only lunched the Key,BUT for it to be loose enough for it to wobble, then I would say the keyway is toast....

You can do a "fix" with lots of quick metal and new key ....

however contray to what was said above it could be hte pulley itself wobbly.

I had one i just fixed on my brothers pulsar where the "inner" part of the pully is joined to the "outer" part by a rubber or something of some sort. This had perished or whatever so the outside was seperate to the inside casuing it to wobble and not spin properly..

COULD just be a fucked pulley but as said pull the pulley off youl soon know.

Yes most modern crank pulleys have a dampner in them and they can destroy them selves

Well if you weld the inner part of the crank pulley to the crank and the harmonic balancer is whats creating the wobble . . . Then welding it wont fix it . . . . . Plus the heat of the weld would melt the dampner . . Among other things .. You would never be able to change cam belt or remove crank for rebuild . . . . He you can see the crank pulley bolt . . . Is the bolt wobbling ? Or running true ? If the bolts running true and the outer of the pulley is wobbling then id say the dampner is toast . . . If inner and outer is wobbling its to do with the key way
