2001 RevD RSK B4 Manual - Questions, Advice

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm after some advice about my car (2001 RevD RSK B4 Manual 96k), hopefully people here can help out.

Firstly (insurance question) do I have an immobiliser or alarm as standard? Currently I'm stuck with 3K excess if she goes missing because I can't tell them if it has any security at all. I can start it up with the FOB-less key which would indicate to me there isn't much in the way of protection.

Second, I'm lookin to lose a bit of the turbo lag and improve responsiveness. I think some new up-pipes that remove the pre-turbo cat's will help. Anyone using these, know of good ones or a source in NZ? I get a bit of a judder sometimes at around 3500rpm (better now with a K&N filter and synthetic oil) which I'm hoping to reduce.

Ive got an STi Defi boost controller and gauge. What does this do other than tell me I'm pulling 1 bar when both turbos spool up? Can I adjust the pressure or is is just for setting a top limit?

On cold mornings I get a whiff of fuel coming through the air-con. I don't mind but my passengers are always whinning. Anyone else experience this or know where its coming from? I assume its from a hose that loses its seal when its cold.

Cheers in advance to anyone who can shed some light on the questions.

Will have a little key symbol on the instrument cluster if you have a immboliser. AFAIK it was an option on all models not standard.

Your boost gauge is only that a gauge. I think the max boost setting is so that it flashes when peaks at whatever your max boost is set at.

ok here we go, it will have no immob or alarm, you need to get a alarm installed. It has no pre turbo cats in this model, in 5th gear you should be making like .9 bar by about 2k if your not theres something wrong, if it has a miss around 3.5k theres something wrong with it, id recommend you take it to someone that actually has experiance with them, a dealer is your best shot. you cant make any adjustments to the boost pressure, and i wouldnt recommend increasing it. the smell of fuel on cold mornings is something ive been paying attention to, i cant prove it for sure but i think the fuel rail may have extremely small cracks and when cold leaks a small amount of fuel, this was a issue in the US with the ver7 WRX, and our revD cars are from the same era and have the same design

Cool, Thanks for the replies, will get alarm fitted.

Ive read lots about the fuel smell, (you probably have read this too) Subaru released some modified fuel rails to reduce the misalignment of two rubber pipe joined sections under the intake manifold http://www.scoobymods.com/fuel-smell-cold-weather-wrx-t2886.html?t=2886 <- interesting thread about their replacement. I hope there aren't cracks in my fuel rail.

Ive got no intention of increasing the boost, was just curious about the gauge's purpose. I was interested in any exhaust mod's to free up the system, pretty sure the judder is just VOD related and freeing up the exhaust flow might help a bit.

Getting .4 bar on first turbo and another .5-.6 on the secondary which seems about right. I need to try in 5th @ 2k to see but I'm pretty sure I'd only be running the primary at that stage not both.

So as far as performance modification go, the general reccommendation is leave the dam thing alone?

if your only getting .4 of a bar on the primary theres something up stock boost on the primary is about 12-14psi in this model id imagine its not to rapid atm, also this model MUST run on 98

Thats interesting, I understood max boost was 1 bar (14psi) with both the primary and secondary running. Do you know whree I would find the stock boost figures? Its a bit of an issue if its supposed to be much more. Be interested to compare it to a properly running one. Seems to still have pretty quick acceleration, bout 6sec to 100km/h.

Yeah I've only been running 95. Need to find a servo that has 98. Maybe even run a little kerosene in there too. Haven't been getting flash mileage due to excessive use of the go pedal. Should grow out of that soon, be good to get an extra 10% as well though.

These do have a factory single point immob, but no alarm.

the NZ new ones got an alarm i think, but not the jdm models as far as ive seen unless optioned, i know 100% mine doesnt, if you car has a plain key that can start the car then there is no immob

My primary hits 14psi, my secondary hits 14psi... completely normal for Rev D.. earlier models the primary was around 8-9psi, secondary around 14psi...

Hmmm, sounds like my turbo might have some issues. Its a shit load faster on the secondary than the primary thats for sure. I'll put some 98 in it and try watch the boost gauge carefully without crashing to see what its doing.

As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) the primary can produce 14psi and both could also produce 14psi because the total volume/mass of air being compressed increases with increased rev's.

Confused as to whether my car is working properly though...

I'm in a revD BH5, with just a muffler done. In higher gears I have hit 1.3bar (18.8psi).

In 1st gear, primary does approx. 10psi (see log below of a run from stopped into 3rd gear). Secondary up to 14.5psi in 3rd. (this log was done completely factory)

Cool, Thanks for posting that log. It seems I'm only hitting 0.5bar in first which is a bit lower than your plot shows. Pretty sure something isn't quite right, feels a bit sluggish compared with when I bought it.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
