Fuel smell in cabin

I have a 2001 Etune Legacy and have a strong fuel smell going into the cabin.

Took it into a shop and they can see a wet patch and smell fuel when looking down through the Manifold. ( Battery side). The guy seems to think it could be loose fuel lines. Have had an estimate for six hours work.

What do you think a decent price would be to do this? ..........

its a common problem!

It happens on mine.. but only on really really cold days..

A TSB has been released in the states to cover any repairs/replacement fuel lines caused by this problem..

Shame it doesn't cover us here.

Not sure if it would take 6 hours, depending on how familiar the mech is.

But it does involve taking the TMIC, manifold out, which can be rather tedious..

If this only happens on cold days which seems to be the same here. Can i wait or should this be fixed asap.

yeah..

apparently its the joins in the fuel lines.. where rubber meets metal lines...

when cold, the parts of the join will contract more than the other causing a leak..

naturally i'd be worried with leaking fuel in my engine bay... a fire extinguisher will come in handy..

if you expect more cold mornings in winter, I'd get it done soonish...

Ethonol blend - might be called something different - only avaialble from GULL? I think

10% blend 'should' be ok from the pump's but there was a notice from Subaru NZ saying not to use it...

No i dont use that. Looked at it awhile ago but like you said Subaru didnt recommend using it so decided not to.

I use 98 and sometimes 95 when im not near a 98 despensing station.

If you were to DIY, it'd take roughly 3 hours. 6 hours is a bit of an overestimate.

manifold on e-tune is a b-arch to remove

then you'll need to strip the manifold to replace the lines (all of them)

oops, yeah i was thinking single turbo GC8, i hope never to have to do a twin....again. the motor swap took 15+ hours.
