axle length

One last problem fitting my new rear diff... while putting the inner CVs back on after machining,

I noticed different markings on the left and right axles, and that one axle is about 7mm longer than

the other.

Both have two 5mm wide grooves about 5mm apart close to the inner CV, but the longer one also has a

wider groove.

Anyone know which is left and which is right?

These are my old axles, I just didn't pay attention when I took them out because I thought

they were the same >:(

I took the inner CVs off to have new circlip grooves machined, now I need to figure out

which axle should be 7mm longer...

If I can't figure it out, I'll put the diff back on the car and measure the distance to each

hub, hopefully there will be a small difference, if not, maybe it doesn't matter.

That was easy to solve... the diff is not mounted dead center in the rear sub frame, it is offset to the left.

I wonder if that means the driveshaft is on and angle from the gearbox or if the gearbox and engine are

offset from the center as well?

No, the diff is symetrical, the holes in the subframe that the two front bolts sticking out of the diff go into, are not in centered.

Take a look at yours. oh wait... that photo should shows the mount... is it symetrical? looks like it may not be exactly.

yeah, now I know which side needs the longer one... I was just asking because I didn't have time to look last night.

do you have a counter balance on the side of the car with the shorter shaft?

counter balance on what? there's nothing I can think of... I can't think of a good reason for it being off center either,

unless the motor and gearbox are also off center and it's to counter balance the car when there is only the driver... but

that sounds like a long shot.

what happened to your old axles?

I think only the old legacys had different length axles?

I know that if you were carrying out a say later V6 STI gearbox retrofit to your Gen 1 RS then you need the matching 4.44 rear diff as well as the drive axles to center the diff.

If you use an auto 4.44 your OE drive axles clip right in.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
