Removing 95 legacy RS gearbox

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am currently trying to change the clutch on my car, we have succesfully removed everything from the gear box and managed to jimmy it about an inch from the engine, problem is that we can't get it any further, no matter how much wobbling, levering and jimmyinf, it won't go any further, does anyone have any ideas???

Cheers

there is a round bung that has to be removed to gain access to the clutch fork pin. its behind where the starter motor would be. the pin has a small internal thread that allows u to screw into it and pull it out, or hook it with some #8 wire etc.

without removing that it wont come off

ill find some pics tomorrow

To undo the bung, if you don't have the correct sized Allen key, use a bolt with a 14mm head and tighten two nuts together on the bolt. This "tool" can then be used with a ratchet or powerbar. (If you can't get the nuts to lock together on the bolt it may not work too well, I usually tack weld the nuts to the bolt to ensure they're tight)

To get the pin out of the clutch fork, take one of the small bolts (with a 10mm head) out of the cambelt covers. Screw this into the pin and then use a small bar or large screwdriver to lever the pin out.

Put lots of coppercote on the pin before you put it in and it'll be easy as to get out next time.

haha heres hoping ya havnt pulled on ya box to much dude i had same problem as you and pulled and pulled and could only get it bout an inch off the engine, gave up got my mechanic mate to do it for me and he showed me the pin to pull out first, but had damaged the seats inside the gearbox that the pin sits in by pulling to much. Anyhow one chopped up spare gearbox, and a bit of welding and a big wad of cash later and she was good as new again!!

Damaged how???

Yeah we were trying pretty hard last night, even tried levering it out with a couple of power bars so now you got a me a bit worried :-\

What did you need to do welding for?

well the pin that everyone has mentioned has a seat on the inside of the gearbox that it sits in and because I was pullin on the damn thing so hard it broke the seat off on the inside of the box so had to chop the seats out of an old buggered box and get them welded to the inside of my box

  • 2 weeks later...

My 99 b4 gearbox needed a 3/8 allen key to get the 'bung' out. I recommend getting a 3/8 allen key socket from ripco (they can order them in singular, you dont have to buy the $60 set) as that bung can be a right c%&t to get out but with the 3/8 allen socket, ratchet and power bar its a piece of piss.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
