weird stock muffler?

Hiya, My 96 RS-B has this electronically controlled (via the boot) muffler on it, theres a cable that pulls a plate shut at low revs, then opens at full throttle - my mechanic mate thinks its for noise or emmisions control in Japan. Has anyone else seen this on an RS? Ive currently vice gripped the cable open fulltime, the exhaust sounds better and the car seems to pick up better too. I think my pipe diameter is 3", whats the best muffler to get a decent rumble and good (legal) flow if I chop out this weirdo muffler?

it has something to do with the back pressure so ive been told, i have the same thing on my '99B4.

I always wanted to route the pipe with the vavle on it to the other side of the car, look like twin pipes but would only open a high revs.

I took them a while to find my car, I imported it myself and specifically requested full stock. I could have got a modified one for about 4g less with lower k's. But i like to do things myself, why let someone else do the hard work for me.

Not a bad idea, man. If the car doesn't sell I may do that. Im kind of hankering for a deeper rumble than this stock muffler gives out though, so the car may end up with a catback or just a new muffler to make some noise lol.

the weirdo one is pretty cool. A lot of members have the solenoid to activate it in place but dont have the muffler. If your feeling adventurous you could always grab a solenoid and wire the muffler up to work off a secret switch. Then youll have stealth mode for cop stops and wofs

Oh, and instead of vice grips (which can fall off, look ugly, and damage the cable) theres another notch further up on the plate the cable attaches to. Simply detach the cable, pull it taught, and move it up there.

Ah yeah, about thirty minutes after I posted the videgrip thing thats exactly what I did lol. Im trolling trademe for a good muffler and/or backpipe to replace it with, even if the car sells I figure most buyers will be looking for a decent (leagl) suby rumble, mine sounds way too muted until you put the pedal down.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
