Replacing shock absorbers (brake line question)

Hi. I recently bought a legacy with adjustable suspension. I cannot afford the cert so I am thinking of replacing the shocks.

I had a look at the shocks and it seems that the brake hoses are very sturdily connected to the struts with a bracket.

Despite many rigorous attempts, I could not get these hoses off the brackets. Is there a certain way of getting these off? Maybe I need a special tool. Anyone know? Thanks!

they are held to the strut with a bolt or a clip - depending on model

some will need the bracket cut on one side and bent to remove brake hose ( this prevents having to bleed brake )

or you remove the hose by removing the clip a pull it out of the strut bracket - then you have to re=bleed brakes

Ah okay, I would rather bleed the system over cutting the metal. There did not seem to be any bolt that I could undo for this bracket.

I didn't realise I could just pull the hose out? It didn't seem possible, but I guess I need to have another look. Thanks

if there is no BOLT then there will be a slide clip, if you have a real close look it is U shaped and one end will have a 90 degree turn up

Yeah just get a big pair of bull-nose pliers in there and yank it out, or get someone with bigger guns than you to help you.

Cut the bracket....Once you have removed the clip move the hose out of the way and "carefully" put a cut in one side that allows you to bend it and move the hose out of the way and then bend it back in place once done....can still use the clip and all!

That was one of the stupidest things Mr Subaru ever did!

If you stuff the clips , BNT have new ones for about $3.50
