undo engine mounts and slight jack one side up at a time. Makes things just that little easier. Removing the intake battery and water bottle thingy also helps

Funny you say that... I always seem to know when my car is due to get a service cause it starts to get a nice rumble going and sounds great... then gets serviced and then seems to lose it a little.

EDIT: On topic... I seem to see around 400-430km off my tank before petrol light and that is Mosgiel to Dunedin (those that know where I am talking about) twice a day along with other driving. I do around 1000km a week... >.< Wrong car to have I suppose but who cares!

so apart from the usual, air in tyres and not use aircon windows up etc etc..

there must be something mechanical that we can do to use less fuel? tune?

fwiw i reckon i use more gas on 98 than 95 octane. and thats with same driving style.

true, i was getting 7L/100km from hamilton to auckland on 95 but only getting 7.7L/100 on the way back with 98, according to lcd screen in my car. mine is 2004 bp5 gt wagon, manual.

Similar here, got about 600ish driving from Whangarei to CHCH about 2 months ago.

I average around 9L/100k on the open road (generally with plenty of hills, corners and overtaking) and probably 11+ around town (short trips, cold starts).

Its generally around 10% thirstier on 95 as well as being slower, less responsive and not as smooth - much happier all round on 98 but you still can't get it south of Dunedin.
