Kill Switch Install

hey guys, i'm heading down to work on my rover crews mudbash car, we need to get the killswitch installed.

its a 1.3 ford laser, carburettered old school machine.

at the moment, the kill switch is killing all battery power, but the altinator is keeping the car running. i've only got a single terminal kill switch, and wondering how the hell to get the one switch to kill both battery power and altinator power in one hit?

any diagrams / help would be much appreciated, engine is coming out tomorrow to do a clutch and i'm hoping to wire it all up by this weekend.

route the alt back to the same switch? (guessing here)

some switches have 2x contacts etc

i looked into this a lot for my track car, no way to do it without hurting the alternator when the switch is off.

i have a 2 pole relay on the base of the kill switch i bought for the track car, one pole kills the ignition and the other closes and shorts alternator to chassis via a resistor to that the alternator always has a load across and doesn't suddenly open.

you could always try running the alternator feed back to the battery side of the switch.... may surge your battery tho.

killing ignition is easy, killing ignition and isolating battery at same time is harder.

yeah, i need to kill ignition and power, only have a s**ty single contact switch. could prob set up a big ass relay to kill it. car only really gets run once a year, but damn it gets a thrashing

juat take battery out if you only use it once a year or so lol
