head installation procedures

Hi, i have 2 workshop manuals one for earlier ej20's one for later ones

just wondering which torque procedure should i use (im using early rs CD block with v3 heads)

the early one which is after you back off all bolts by 180deg the second time you tighten all to 29nm then add 80-90deg then another 40to45deg. followed by the 2 centre ones by another 40-45deg?

or the latter one which after you back all bolts off the second time

you tighten 2 middle ones to 34nm and outer ones to 15nm then add 80-90deg twice?

did you buy new head gaskets? did they come with torque figures?

cant remember the figures but i rang autotech in rangiora and they told me the torque figures to use

i think it was 29nm on all then 69 on all . back off 180 then another 180 and then i get lost but it was a degree figure rather then torque and all where even.

ichiban would be the man to shed some light on this as the procedure may be different depending on the headgasket

depends on which headgasket you use

composite gasket - use the early specs

MLS (multi layer steel - thick or thin) - use the later specs
