Vacuum Hose Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hay, have a split vacuum line on my forester (v3/v4 engine equivalent) and figured it was a good time to look at replacing all the vacuum hoses and was wondering if anyone had a vacuum diagram or general rule so I know which hoses I can replace with the basic silicon vacuum lines and which I should leave alone or need special hoses for (such as radiator etc or lines with restriction pills in them)???

I was thinking that maybe you could blow through or suck a old hose and if you cant suck through it then it has a restricter? Would this be right?

I wouldnt suck it... id blow on it...

Pull the vacuum hose off and feel for anything inside.. or if it can be straightened then try look down it... if you dont see/feel anything inside it then you will be able to replace it.

Might be an easier way

I've found at least one with a restrictor, can you replace these but transfer the restrictor into the new hose somehow or does it just have to stay standard? I'm a complete noob when it comes to this as I wouldn't even know what the restrictor pills look like until I cut a hose open and I dont wanna do that unless I can replace it obviously...

Yes you can replace the hose as long as you put the restrictor in. Hose is only hose after all. You need to make sure the new hose has the same ID of course, otherwise you might lose it inside your engine!

Are they simple enough to put into the new hoses? Assuming i just cut into the old hose to get the pill and then start pushing it in the end of the new hose till its roughly where it was in the old one? Also are these restrictor pills directional?

I beleive they are directional someone correct me if im wrong. Shouldnt really matter where in the hose its goes....

Some are a restrictor pill, they just look like a bead with a tiny hole in the middle. The direction of these doesn't matter.

Some, like the brake booster hose, have a 1-way valve in them that will only allow vaccuum, not boost... otherwise when you got on the boost you could pressurise your brake booster and that would be rather unfortunate. These have to be the right way around.

Can anyone indicate which hoses may have pills or valves in them? Because have replaced two and not found any but not 100% sure what I'm looking for, would you feel them through the wall of the factory hose or do you have to slit the length of the hose and look for them?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
