Hks evc 4 issues

Ok so installed the above boost controller runs ok on wastegate pressure on low boost of 9 lbs switch to high which is 18 lbs and no go. When its hits say 12 i hear a weird noise like when you squeeze a baloon at the end and let the air out. So i have tightened all lines as much as possible so it might rule out a leak but has anyone come across this at all hoping the solenoid is not fucked and i didnt buy a dud

If solenoids fucked u get either only stock boost know matter what duty cycle or u get no wastegate control

Cool yea i get stock boost on low but step it up to high then when it hit 12 it drops off and makes that fucked noise the other thing i didnt mention was im not running the vacuum filters yet as i cant make it into redline

I never ran them bro - got it plumbed up correctly as per manual and also the controller on swing valve for internal ?? Sounds like air leak but not on waste gate line cos a leak on wastegate line would increase boost

Air leak bro

Check all hoses and intercooler y pipes

Basically all joints -

turbo outlet to red intercooler pipe

The y pipes Under intercooler

The Bov is sealed tight

The throttle joiner

Hopefully it's one of them

I have seen ppl have Bov not bolted properly to intercooler

Throttle body gaskets make a very ugly high pitch sound when leaking . Your vac still normal on hot idle or lower than normal ?

Everything is tight i guessing its leaking somewhere only happened after a few days Was all good then it turned to custard jus wondering if the hoses aint closing brand new hoses to but purchased from supercheap but as i said its only past 12 lbs all of a sudden it jus starts dropping off to zero be good to get your opinion brad when you aint busy was even thinking bout returning to stock as its pissing me off

I would come have a look but I'm stuck at hospital lol - if u leave the evc in there but just plumb the factory solenoid back up do u have Ur 21 psi back again without the sound ? If u do the problem is related to the evc

Will plumb back upto standard and let you know. Hope you get better soon bro

I'm in a similar boat lol

Had missing/surging issues and turned out to be faulty connectors to spark coils

Changed plugs while at it

Thanks to kingpin and jpar196 on that

Now have a boost leak as soon as u hit 9psi aaaagghhh!!

just hook ya factory solenoid back up with the factory hoses and if ya see 20 odd psi without the sound then u know theres a problem with the evc / plumbing or something involving the evc

By the sounds of it, it's nothing to do with the boost controller.

If it is an air leak, if you have access to a compressor try pressurising the intake - block off the intake @ the AFM (a baked beans can is 3 inch haha) and crank 20psi in there.

If there is an air leak, that's how you'll find it in no time. It will bleed pressure off slowly (like 1psi a second) - anything more and start listening for a hiss.

The boost controller is going to either work fine, or it will either stick open (and give factory boost) or stick closed (and freeboost), what you're describing sounds like either a misfire (check the plugs, look for an extra black one) or an intake leak somewhere.

the car ran fine before he put the controller in - instead of farting around with a compressor just hook the standard solenoid back up how u had it before and see if its runs like it use to - if it does - work from there to get the evc working properly

How would a boost controller cause what sounds like a misfire or leak? Car fine on w/g pressure, hits 12psi starts farting around, sounds like misfire - he could be using a hole drilled in the wg line to raise boost or a $1000 EBC it still has the same result

5 pound ? shit lol sure the wastegate pressure should be 7-8 ish - u tried connecting the standard solenoid up with stock hoses with restrictor ? you use to hit 21psi didnt u?

boost leak? the leak is lowering the boost ? turbo is making more pressure but its leaking out ? it drinking gas?
