V4 motor into V2

Hey just wondering what the go is with putting a v4 or 5 motor and box out of say a type r or sti ra into a non sti v2 WRX, are there any major difference i.e mounts or anything? Other than ecu as would be using after market.

physically will fit and will use all the same mounts AFAIK, Correct me if im wrong

yeah im pretty sure the mounts will be the smae..just put a v8 motor in my v4 and mounts were the same.

I THINK youd have issues with the wiring but i maybe wrong

it would be better to keep all the v4 sensors and other electrical setup together and use the v4 ecu. which means you will have to reloom.

Thanks for the replys, if i was going to do the conversion id probably use an aftermarket ecu such as a link so i shouldnt need the loom would i?

Also swapping the v4 and 5 bonnets and head lights over to a v2 is this also possible with minimal effort modifications?

yes as far as i know the newer lights (and grill) are all you need for the newer bonnets to fit correctly.

if using an aftermarket ecu you'll need to adapt your current loom to suit anyway. probably less work.

what i mean is, for example link sell adaptor-links that accept the car's standard loom plugs. plug and play

however your v2 loom is not compatible with your v4 engine sensors,electrics etc

Yes a version 4 motor will fit in very nicely. You can reuse your existing version 2 inlet manifold. No mods will be required to get it all running.

If you want to put a version 5 motor in there, you'll have to change the wiring to suit as your v2 manifold will not bolt onto a v5 motor.

Going to be the cynic here and just say sell the old rex, and grab a V4 STi. Seriously, it's SO much more than just a better engine.

easiest method, sure, but why not take advantage of larger injectors, bigger intercooler, better intake and a more powerful tune of the v3 setup?

Yes true, and its not hard to rewire the v3 manifold with the v2 engine wiring. Just a little time and patients

Cheers for the help, havnt bought a car yet just seeing what my options are. Theres a couple of sti ra on trade me atm for quite cheap that ive been looking at. What sorta things should i be looking out for in the earlier model wrxs?
