wrx engine into legacy gtb problems

Green Machine

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So I asked afew questions on here and did some research online and it seemed to come across that there wasnt much difference between v2 and v3 wrx engines in terms of wiring/sensors but I think the information I got was wrong.

So I have put a v2 wrx engine in my bg5? gtb 1996 legacy and am trying to get it to run using a v4 wrx ecu as I was told this would would but its turning over but not firing. I did what it said to do to my wiring in the single turbo legacy conversion thread as I figured that would be the same and the engine looms like almost identical with the same colour wires going out of the plugs.

How ever there are 2 extra wires that I have found so far from one of the plugs by the battery.

One is a brown wire and the other is red/green wire.

I think I traced the brown wire to the tps sensor which is a 4 wire but looking at my old loom it looks like the old tps is a 3 wire??? Would that mean I need to put a newer tps sensor on in order for the ecu to work as I would assume the wrx of the same year would be same tps as the gtb.

Also would I need to use the coilpacks on the plugs from the gtb to work with the v4 ecu or would the v2 coil packs work fine???

Is there anything else I may have missed?? Its annoying me as I just cant get it to start.

edit: Also is there anyway to check what error codes a car is throwing without plugging in a reader thingy? On the hondas I used to be able to jump 2 wires and it would flash each code on the dash. Do subarus have anything like this?

Cheers Haden

hmmm 96 gtb - likely closer to a version 3 wrx engine

how many ecu plugs did the legacy have? 3 = moreorless the V3 wrx setup and 4 = moreorless the V2 wrx setup

yes the TPS and AFM differ between V2 / V3

your basically doing a single turbo conversion, have a read up of those threads

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
