temp gauge sender

hey i haven been able to get my rs to read the temp on the dash... just replaced the thermostat,no luck, could any one tell me where the temp sender is on my motor?? cheers ethan

check under alternator slightly to drivers side in crossover pipe. not sure on the early ones but thats where mine is.

im running a early wrx motor single bolt coil packs, the 1 with the lines on the top of rocker covers and flat on the bottom

Remove alternator - there's 2 temp senders - one has one wire the other has 2

The single wire is for the Gauge - easy way to test if gauge works - earth the wire and then turn key on a temp gauge should be maxed as if it's over heating - if that's the case replace sender and be away laughing

Erm...

Early motors they're at the back of that pipe under the manifold near the turbo. Your dash is driven as above by the single wire, ECU by the dual wire.

V3 onwards, yes. V1 and 2. No.

both my single bolt coil - lined rocker cover motors had them under the alternator - one was a bc5 and one was a ver 2 wrx - seems weird if someone changed the water manifold and or changed the block and still used the rocker heads??

An engine with badged/lined whateveryoucallit rocker covers should have a rear facing water temp sensor except in the case of the EJ20H.

A BC5 RS with single bolt coils is not running the original engine.

yup single bolt wrx - twin bolt bc5

either way which ever location the sender is - the above method tests that the gauge and wiring is working - and if so - replace sender

how do u get to the rear facing ? remove anything ? as to helping OP

You need to pull the turbo unless you have very small hands, unfortunately I don't have very small hands. In BC5s at least the gauge itself is the leading failure point.

just got back in side from having a tutu, the single wire sender was under the altanator, tryed to earth it out and put my reds on and it did nothing??, what else would u guys recomend i do next??? ???

Replace the temperature gauge in the cluster.

Hang on.... Under the alternator... was the single-wire sticking up from the block or sticking forwards from the water crossover pipe?

Sticking up is the oil pressure switch.

Yep, that's the oil pressure switch, which controls the oil light. Yours is on the back of the water crossover pipe.

Nope, as above, pull the turbo and you should be able to get to it. Personally I'd recommend you replace the temp gauge first as they fail a lot more often.

haha thanks all for your help, found it and the wrie had ripd out the plug...... earthed it and the gauge went straight to hot so i fixed it and put it all back together, let it idle for 10 mins and the temp sat under half ;D
