2 different lifter types in the same head?

Recommended Posts

Last week my hack of a rally car started to tick excessively (has just had an engine oil flush, new oil, filter and a good dose of MBL-8). There has

been no lifter noise at all for 2 months after this service was done but all of a sudden the lifter noise started. I tried to do another oil change and

adding new MBL-8 but nothing fixed it. While it was quiet at work I removed the cam shafts and remove the lifters on the side that was noisy.

The problem is there are 2 different types of lifters in the head, one is solid and the other has indent for the spring and the spring sits on a washer.

There are 3 solid lifters and 5 "sprung" lifters. I would like to know which lifters should be in there and what ones should be replaced.

Thanks for the help

Hmmm am pretty sure the ones that are standard are the ones with the springs because ive heard of people "upgrading" to solid lifters, could be wrong

id have a look at the other bank and match them with the ones in there.

sounds like its had noisy lifters previously and someones swapped them out with ones theyve had out of a different ej20

Thats what i was thinking, but i rang genuine parts and they sell the lifters with the springs. Also i have pulled apart a set of reconditioned heads i have lying around and all the lifters out of those heads are solid. It left me pretty stumped.

The ej20 engine comes in many, many different forms due to its vast use throughout the subaru range for well over ten years, over that time its been developed and changed to suit subarus applications

I\'d go with all solid lifters if you have spare heads with them in

Cant say ive ever had to worry about lifters in any of the legacys ive owned but from what i gather there are people who "upgrade" to solid lifters so it seems to be a preferable option

although it wouldnt surprise me at all if both options made little difference

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
