EJ207 help

[207wrx]

Hey guys afew months ago i bought a 98 wrx and was told it MIGHT have a sti motor. It has different seats aswell so I just guessed someone put some time into it. Recently I decided to run the engine and trim codes and have found that the motor is a EJ207, I think the same as the 98/99 wrx RA\'s? Ive been told they have forged internals from factory, but I cant find any websites with decent info on this motor. Does anybody know anything about the build of these motors? Thanks for any help (Links of details would be great)

phase 2 v5sti (being a 98) was ej207

forged pistons, open deck block

wrx got the ej205 version (non forged)

what did you need to know exactly tho?

Isn\'t the ej207 a is semi closed deck. i just installed a short one in a bh5 leggy today and its forged pistons with semi closed deck block im sure its a ej207 8bolt 5th thrust etc

Its pretty dumb but V5/6 EJ207 is open and I think but have no idea that V7/8 non sti are EJ207 open then V7/8 STI are semi EJ207. V5/6 non sti are open just EJ205 but possibly exactly the same case as EJ207 V5/6 sti. All phase 2.

V5/6 - open, cast pistons

V5/6 Sti - open, forged pistons

V7/8 - open, cast pistons

V7 Sti - semi, stronger rods, forged pistons

V8 Sti - Better crank, stronger rods than V5/6 weaker than V7 tapered end?, hypereutectic pistons

Correct me if Im wrong.

That sort of makes sense actually, so the shorty i installed was a v7 sti cheers

some of the late v6\'s hand semi closed decks, I seen it with my own eyes

you missed one, version 8 spec c, double cross drilled nitrided crank (ive got this crank in my car)

I wasnt sure on spec c\'s so left em out. Knew that about the V8 C though. So V7 C doesnt have anything diff to STI?

yep as above list by evowrx..

the ej207 came in open and closed config and the ej205 always open

i once had a february 2000 v6sti and was open deck ej207 and forged pistons
