What's this and what does it do... and why has someone fiddled with it

So had the glovebox out to change the cabin filter yesterday

Finally found where a mystery switch is hooked up to - someone has put a little on/off button by the steering wheel, I\'m looking at the black box which looks factory fitted, very top left of the picture, this is looking up to the left above the glovebox.

What is it? Then at least I\'d know what the switch could do.

maybe it turns the park lights on and off

That black box is for the wireless key entry and stuff: If you take it out and have a read: it says something along those lines, can\'t remember entirely: but that\'s what the black box is for.

Weird. Godknows why they have tapped a switch into it. Something alarm related maybe?

No worries: you\'re probably on the money as to why there\'s a switch. It is a little odd though.

maybe to disable wireless entry, so teenage kids cant take it for a joy ride on the school holidays

does door handle beep when locked with switch activated?

Yeah it does - though I think I\'ve pulled the wires out of the button/switch, can\'t remember. Will try hooking it up and see what does/doesn\'t work.

I\'d figured/hoped it was a supaaa scramble turbo boost button / hit the nawws & jettison passneger footwell / whatever button up until now

Thats the central locking control box, the person that installed the alarm or remote central locking system would have opened up that box and soldered the 2 wires on to neg points on the 2 relays(1 relay to open and 1 relay to lock) located on the circuit board inside that box to unlock and lock the doors via the system that was installed.
