external wastegate

got a friend who bought a sti v7 with external wastegate, however car didnt have boost gauge, today we put a boost gauge on it, and went for drive....car is boosting over 20 psi, so, we r thinking to put a MBC on it and set it up to 15 psi, however i would like to known if would work, or if we got change the wastegate spring first. Thanks

what brand wastegate?, spring too big? wastegate arm loose? maybe the car has been tuned, 20psi peak sounds normal on a tuned v7 sti. But a mbc would easily decrease the boost.

wastegate is street spec branch , but i dont know whot to identify if is Tial or not. Anyone know how to identify if is tial or not ? the one hes got is exctaly this one http://www.listselltrade.co.nz/item_itemid_50197.html

it\'s a knock off replica of a tial wastegate, still does the job. I\'d say it\'s running the correct spring.

If cars been tuned to run at 20psi peak, a mbc set @ 15psi will do the job, but you will prob find will make the car run a bit poo rather than running as if the boost has just been turned down,..

The best thing to do is get it on a dyno and check everything is okay. Shouldn\'t cost much.

its going over 20 psi, boost gauge goes till 20 psi, however when we r on full boost, it goes way more than 20, i would say 23 psi at least, so, if he buy a spring for 15 psi for tial wastegate should be fine ay ?

I would say dont boost it unless you want to be replacing the engine as well.

Sorry to state the obvious but an MBC cant make boost go lower - unless the factory solenoid is being used along with the external gate?

Been waiting for someone to say that. How is it plummed up? If you have no mbc/ebc it should have one line running from comp cover to the wastegate. WOT will tell you what psi spring you have.

if it has a 20psi spring in it then it wont go lower with an mbc

only alternative is it has say 10psi spring and is using factory boost control - which is making it go more

Tune it or reduce boost
