Insurance for modified vehicle

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Got a BE5 legacy that i\'m preparing to do a tt to st conversion but before i get started i\'ve been looking for insurance.

Who do you go through for such a vehicle?

AA and the ASB (IAG) have said no, anyone had any luck with such a vehicle through the main insurance providers or do i need to go to NAC?

Any suggestions on where to go?

I\'m ready to start spending up on parts but just don\'t want to get caught without insurance.

Thanks guys

are you aorried about them not covering you because you modified it or are you worried about them not giving you cover for the potentially increased value of the vehicle ?

you dont even need cert to do it because it bolts on to everything stock and it has the same rated power

why did they say no ? because of your circumstances (age / record / car ) or specifically because you are removing a turbo off it ?

I spoke to AA and the ASB today and they said no because of the mods, not so much worried, but want to have the insurance lined up before i start.

I didn\'t think i needed a cert, and was going to do most of it myself then send it down to NZEFI for a tune on an hks fcon IS.

Cert for Turbo Substitution

Technically it needs a cert. You can\'t change turbos, wastegates etc without requiring a cert.

Its also been written like that in the LVVTA Thresholds pdf for years. But chances of anything happening due to you not having a cert is minimal? But better to have the correct information and leaving that decision up to the owner of the car.

they only bought that in a year or so ago . it also means everyone who has reflashed a late model ecu is foul of the law :o

adding to the confusion is the fact the legacy was originally single turbo . then had 2 for a while . and is now back to one

Thats been the threshold since half you kids were still at school ::)

Its the same sentence about superchargers or turbochargers as a substitution or modification etc etc in every pdf of the thresholds that I\'ve ever downloaded off LVVTA. Even back when I had to wait about a week for it to come through on the dial up :P

And yes, it means that there is a huge percentage of people that are running foul of the law. Still yet to hear of anyone ever being picked up on it though.

Try Classic Cover, they are really good and compartable with the likes of AMI in terms of pricing.

Doesn\'t classic cover mean you can only do an X amount of kms a year though?

http://www.classiccover.co.nz/ i had the rally car with them, 5000km a year but you could buy more in 5000 chunks. although im not sure if its just a road subaru if they do cover, they told me it was only because it was a rally car that they covered subarus.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
