SYMS Chipped computer - any ideas?

Hey guys,

I've been looking for a computer upgrade for my BG Leggy for a while now and the other day I came across a "SYMS" Japanese racing chipped computer for my model car, the guy selling it doesn't know anything about it nor has he driven a car with it in but I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this company before or if there's anyone out there running this type of computer chip at present? I have a bad feeling it could just be a "crank up the boost" kind of item which will eventually end up wreaking my perfectly good engine, any insight would be awesome so I know I'm not wasting my money on it.

Yea I have but it's all in Japanese lol and i cant find anything regarding the computer specs just prices and the likes.

I have no idea what the symms one does exactly but if its similar to the prova ecu ive got it removes the speed cut increases boost a little and increases the redline and decreases the switch over point of the turbos

Syms used to be an Aftermarket supplier to Subaru Dealerships in Japan (I have the JDM aftermarket Catalog for a few models at work) and the ECU's are listed in there with a Subaru Part number... which comes up No Longer Available now... As long as it's the correct ECU for your car (there are specific WRX and STi ones) then you should be alright.

Word or warning though, with quite a few of those style ECU's, they are tuned for specific bolt on parts to be added for the car to run optimally (Usually called Stages, anyone who hangs out on NASIOC will understand what i'm getting at)... Hopefully this makes a few things clear
