Remote Keyless Ignition - Need Copy Made of Fob

Hey all,

I just bought a 2006 Legacy GT and it has keyless ignition (ie have the fob in range and then press a button). The thing is all I got was one remote/fob with it (Turners Auctions).

It also unlocks the doors etc and has a key that you can "extract" from within it. I guess this is for if you lock yourself out somehow, but it still couldn\'t be used to start the car as there is no ignition barrel.

Can anyone give me some advice on where I can get a duplicate remote/fob made? I understand Subaru do them, but it\'s like $500. Bugger that!

these keys are specifically coded to the car\'s ecu on models that new.... expect it to cost a bit...

Could be an issue in NZ. Had a problem with a customer in Aus wanting a new FOB for a Delica. Not a problem getting the FOB from Mitsubishi here but the FOB has to be coded to the ECU and it\'s generally something only the dealers have the software for. Mitsubishi Aus didn\'t want a bar of it as the car was an import. I suppose you could ship the ECU over here but I\'m not 100% on that one. I can certainly source you a FOB from here in Japan but you\'ll have to find out if it can be coded down there.

as NZ deals mostly in jap imports, there are a few dealers that may have the ability to code them, i\'d expect most major centers (aux, wellies and chch) with a dealer should be able to sort it.

Assuming it\'s no different to the non keyless keys it shouldn\'t be a problem. I got a new key through the east tamaki Sublab. They just took my car details, got the code from Japan then programmed the new key. They charged shitloads to cut it though so maybe go elsewhere for that.
